Celebration of Education Gala!

May 01, 2017 by Mylanna Warren

This April, the Indianapolis Indiana branch of School on Wheels hosted an Education Celebration Gala. The purpose of this event was to give back to those who helped sponsor the organization, through volunteering, or donation. Royal United Mortgage LLC has a longstanding partnership with the School on Wheels, and this Gala represented lots of time, effort, and dedication from our staff. I was proud to be a part of it!

Royal United Mortgage LLC, too was happy to be a part as well. Through a $10,000 donation, Royal United Mortgage LLC had become one of three Award Sponsors of the event. This had secured me an excellent seat for the event, as a small group of us had one of the few tables for the show.

My very first experience with the School on Wheels was during the holiday season of 2015, I opted to wrap gifts for our sponsored kids at the Barton Center. I’ve got a deep seeded obsession with gift wrapping, I think it has something to do with liking things to be neat and organized. Naturally, I began to get curious about where the gifts I wrapped ended up going. Next thing I knew, I had signed up to help host their holiday party and helped deliver the gifts as well.

While I was attending, I was able to get a better feel for what School on Wheels really does, how they helped local families and contribute to their well-being. The great partnership Royal United Mortgage LLC has with School on Wheels really opened my eyes to how one constant in a child’s life can mean a world of difference when dealing with life at home, focusing on school, homework, and a child’s overall behavior. That one tutor, one meal, or one gift may very well serve as the light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. Which inspires faith and hope in all the families especially the children affected by homelessness.

Fast forward, a year and a half later, I was able to attend the School on Wheels Education Celebration Gala. This event allowed many of the organization’s supporters and volunteers to be recognized for their outstanding service to the cause. After hearing more stories of success and witnessing the fearless dreams the kids have and aspire to accomplish, I felt even more inclined to see how I can help. It’s no secret how much goes on behind the scenes and everything that takes place in order to operate a non-profit organization, support a child succeeding in school, and helping families overcome homelessness through education.

The theme of the Education Celebration was one which is very near to our hearts at Royal United Mortgage LLC the School on Wheels “wanted to share the hopes, dreams, and accomplishments of our students”. It’s such a tremendously powerful thing to be a part of, and I was happy I could attend.
