Royal United Mortgage LLC Volunteers at School on Wheels Camp Breakfast

May 26, 2016 by Cindy Ruby

In support of families in the community experiencing homelessness, Royal United Mortgage LLC volunteers helped with a weekend event for our partner School on Wheels. Families of students in School on Wheels’ programming have an opportunity to send children to Happy Hollow Children’s Camp this summer where economically disadvantaged and certain special needs children from Indianapolis and Central Indiana are impacted through this life changing summer program.

Each year, children’s eyes are opened to the possibility that their lives do not have to be defined by their current circumstances as they have the opportunity to experience outdoor adventures, including canoeing, horseback riding, and archery. More importantly, Happy Hollow is a wonderful place where children have the opportunity to develop important life skills such as self-confidence, teamwork, personal responsibility, problem solving, and self-worth.

In preparation to sending these children to camp, Royal United Mortgage LLC held an event where ten families and 40 people were served. In addition to setup and cleanup, Royal United Mortgage LLC volunteers cooked a pancake breakfast for the families, lead children through eye exams, and helped mothers fill out the necessary paperwork. There were 2 MDs who also volunteered their time at this even to give the children their required physical.

School on Wheels families enjoyed a nice breakfast and played games with their kids while waiting their turn. It was very relaxed. This helped ease the family’s minds to sending their kids away for a few days of fun and new experiences!
