Team Schaumburg Supports Feed My Starving Children

May 10, 2017 by Royal United

The Royal United Mortgage LLC Schaumburg IL branch donated time volunteering at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in May. FMSC is a local outreach partner at this office and it was another successful and rewarding event.

Schaumburg Mortgage

Our team packed 51 boxes of food with 36 bags in each box for a total of 1836 bags packed. There are 6 meals in each bag equating to 11,016 meals packed in only a 2 hour timespan.

Check out what some of our team members had to say about their experience volunteering.

This was my first FMSC event with Royal United Mortgage and in my lifetime; and it was absolutely incredible! Not only was it fun and challenging, but humbling. I am so happy to have found an organization that puts EVERYTHING into helping families and children that don’t have the ability to thrive, let alone survive. On a personal level, it’s empowering to be able to influence the lives of hundreds of children I’ll most likely never meet. On a community level, it’s refreshing to see so many people come together for a cause such as this. It seems difficult to see the blessings amidst our seemingly chaotic environment these days, but FMSC does an incredible job of bringing people together via teamwork, joy, and hope. When more of the community participates in outreach events such as these, we can certainly look forward to happier days for EVERYONE. Thanks for the opportunity!” — Ashley Lee

I am a repeat volunteer to Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) and appreciate Royal United Mortgage’s support for this vital organization.  FMSC supplies food to children around the world who would otherwise starve to death.  The food deliveries reach their intended recipients and the food comes in reliable intervals. This charity event is fun, well organized, and beneficial to those in need.  It also offers an opportunity for employees to work as a TEAM towards a common goal.  Please consider becoming a donor to this worthwhile charity!” — Ken Andresen

Team Schaumburg pitched in at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) to help the children of Haiti who are still feeling the effects of the devastating 2010 earthquake.  Twenty members of the Schaumburg branch helped pack 35,856 meals, enough food to feed 98 malnourished children for an entire year.  Over 11,000 of those meals were packed by a very competitive table of RUM employees.  This is RUM’s 3rd year supporting the mission of FMSC financially and with our labor.  The partnership has been mutually beneficial bringing hope and food to the hungry children as well as purpose for our team members.  FMSC does not receive any government funding, but they know how to stretch a dollar.  FMSC serves 28 countries in Africa, 7 countries in Asia, 9 countries in the Caribbean, 2 countries in Europe, 2 countries in the middle east and 12 countries in North/South America.   Over 90 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to food programs causing FMSC to be in the top 1% in the categories of trustworthiness and integrity as rated by Charity Navigator. For more information on how you can volunteer or financially support FMSC please visit their website at www.fmsc.org.” — Patrick Christoffel

“I always look forward to the FMSC events with RUM.  So far, I’ve helped pack food 4 times for the organization.  I really enjoy giving back, especially when I know that I’m saving kids’ lives from starvation.  It’s nice to know that 98% of the food gets to the kids that need it.  It really puts things in perspective when you are working for people who don’t have anything to eat.  As Americans, we truly are blessed.  I’m glad to help.” — Carissa Cass

“This was my first volunteer experience with RUM. However I’ve done a ton of charity work in the past. It was a very awesome and humbling experience. It was a bit more physical than I imagined but worth it.” — Terrance Hicks

“I love the FMSC event, the whole experience is incredibly humbling. I love knowing that the two hours we spent filling, sealing, and packing those bags of food will feed 98 kids in Haiti for an entire year. It goes beyond the food, too – if these children are well-fed and healthy, then they can go to school, and they can succeed and excel in life. This was my second time volunteering at FMSC with RUM and I plan on going back!” — Vanessa Norman
